Scholars’ Campus Experiences
The King-Morgridge Scholars Program encourages our scholars to make the most of their Wisconsin Experience. Besides the outstanding academic offerings of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, our campus offers a vibrant range of extra-curricular and student life opportunities. Here are some of the activities in which King-Morgridge Scholars engaged in during their time on campus:
- Morgridge Center for Public Service: several scholars have participated in Badger Volunteers and Achievement Connections.
- Intern and Emerging Leaders Retreat participant with the Willis L. Jones Center for Leadership (JLC).
- Student Organizations: the scholars have been members of academic, service, religious, cultural, and intramural sports organizations; the scholars have held various leadership positions within their chosen organizations.
- Associated Student of Madison (student government): Chair, Student Services Finance Committee, ASM Vice Chair, School or College elected representative, committee work, and research projects.
- Research and Teaching: many scholars have enrolled in the L&S Undergraduate Research Scholars Program, several have sought and obtained research positions with faculty/staff/graduate students in CALS and COE, one was selected for research project by a professor based on class performance, scholars have been hired for positions including teaching assistant, undergraduate course assistant, and peer advisors.
- Outreach: cross-cultural speaking engagements through the ISS Reach program and African Studies Program; four Wisconsin Idea Fellowship awardees, and one Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment awardee.
- Other: senior class officer; commencement speaker; convocation speaker, ISS Bridge and Reach Programs; Learning Communities [Chadbourne Residential College (CRC), Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), The Studio, International House], study abroad; international and domestic internship participants; and the majority have held on-campus jobs.
